Still, Casillas flashed his speed and potential as he recorded three sacks and was sighted by former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams as the team's best blitzer. With Steve Spagnuolo on board as the Saints' new DC, Casillas will have a clean slate to show that he should be inserted as a starter starting in 2012. |

2/9/2012:The report notes that Manning's velocity is down and that he's having trouble throwing across his body to the left. Manning has had three neck surgeries in the last 19 months, so the fact that he's not 100 percent yet is not surprising -- after all, it's only February. But the fact remains that as talented and diligent as Manning is, there's no guarantee that he'll make a complete enough recovery to recapture his pre-injury form. With the Colts having a March 8 deadline to pay Manning a $28 million bonus, it's not hard to imagine the team bidding adieu to the face of their franchise, especially with April's draft -- and a shot at QB Andrew Luck -- on the horizon. |

A broken right thumb slowed him after that and he finished with 11.5 sacks on the season, good for ninth in the league. If he and Elvis Dumervil can stay healthy next season, they'll be one of the best pass rushing duos in the NFL. |

2/6/2012:Vereen, who was the 56th pick overall in April's draft, saw his rookie season slowed by nagging injuries, carrying just 15 times for 57 yards and a TD. Fellow rookie Stevan Ridley (a third-round pick) overtook him on the Patriots' depth chart, but if Vereen can come into training camp this summer in good health, then he has a great chance to carve out a more significant role next season, in particular if BenJarvus Green-Ellis departs via free agency. |

2/6/2012:Unfortunately, Welker's outstanding regular season -- a league-high 122 catches for 1,569 yards with nine TDs -- will be overshadowed by a potentially game-changing pass in the fourth quarter that he was unable to corral. Though it wouldn't have been an easy grab, it's a play that Welker usually makes. Welker is slated for free agency this offseason and while some other teams may make a run at him, it's hard to believe that the Patriots won't make retaining their "slot machine" a priority. |
